What Owners Say About their
Hurricane Kayaks
"After paddling over 15 boats at a dealer
demo I went home hopelessly confused. The next week
my sister came in from Georgia with her new Tampico
and I paddled it less than 50 feet and knew it was the
boat for me. As my local dealer didn't carry Hurricanes
and went all the way to Georgia and got one and it was
worth every mile. Thanks for building such a wonderful
kayak!"

"Our trip out to Pictured Rocks was the highlight of
our paddling so far. Our Tracers were so fast and effortless
to paddle that we had to wait over and over again for
everyone to catch up. But with scenery like we saw it
was just another bonus on the day. Hats off to you guys….we
shopped a lot of kayaks before finally buying the Tracers
and not only are they great in the water; the price
was fair."

"Thanks for the catalog and advice. I did go out and
buy the Phoenix and you were right, it is so light and
easy to load and carry that I am paddling more since
I don't need any help. As soon as I get them printed
I'll send you pictures of the heron rookery I snuck
right in on. The Phoenix is very easy for me to control."

"We took paddling classes last month and the school
used a lot of your boats. We were smitten and bought
two Santee XL models the very next day. We would have
written you earlier to tell you how much we like the
kayaks but we're just having too much fun! We ended
up getting more stuff loaded in the dry hatch for our
little "expeditions" than we thought. Our neighbor is
kicking himself for buying the heavy tank he got and
keeps trying hard to get us to swap him for one of ours.
Fat chance."

"I don't often send emails to manufactures that aren't
concerning problems with their products so this is rare
for me. Last weekend I bought two Tampico XLs for my
wife and me only because the dealer was so high on them
(and told me I could bring them back in 30 days for
a refund). Your boats are simply amazing. We live right
on a lake and have been out in all kinds of weather
this week and loved every minute. As far as I can we've
got everything going for us that we wanted in a composite
but at half the price."

"You have absolutely done it. This yak is definitely
the finest FISHING YAK out there. For me a yak has to
be a yak first and then if it fishes well, so much the
better. As you know I have tried out, paddled and sold
almost all of the name brands out there. This new boat
is a yak fisking DREAM. My complaint with so many "Fishing
Yaks" is that they are really just barges whose primary
function is to make a novice paddler feel very stable.
Many of the most popular models just do not paddle at
all. A yak with incredible initial stability most likely
is a dog. Hard to paddle and hell to turn. This yak
paddles well. I do not go off shore often so the 14
foot length is perfect for me on the flats. I did purposely
test it in 4 foot seas and 15+ knot winds at Cedar Key
and it handled superbly. The hull is rockered and flared.
(Swede Form) Good inital stability and excellent secondary
stability. I cannot stand in it, but then I have trouble
standing in my den. A younger thinner version of me
could stand easily. The Trilon hull is supposed to hold
up very well. The similar materials from Perception,
etc have done very well in the Florida sun and on our
oyster bars. The hull design, material and strength
make this yak glide. I noticed immediately that you
get more glide for your stroke than you are probably
used to. It fishes very well. Have had reds, jacks,
snook, spanish and trout on my fly rod. Very responsive
when I wanted to reposition to fight the fish. The cockpit
is big and uncluttered. All this for well under a $1,000.
The Trilon material is as tough as advertised and tricked
out mine weighs in at 56 lbs."

My wife and I have been considering getting into kayaking for a number
of months. Someone on a forum recommended taking lessons before diving
in too deep. So...We finally decided to take a class yesterday with
Bruce Clevenger at Quiet World Sports training center in Jackson, MI.
Jackson is a couple of hours from our place in Northern Indiana.
We left early yesterday and drove up for the class. It was a cloudy,
dreary day, and a 10-15 mph breeze came up about noon. Most of the
kayaks Quiet World supplied were Hurricanes. My wife spent the day in a
Santee 116. She loved it and had a ball all day long. It was great to
watch her smiling with the confidence that as a beginner she could do
make it go where and when she wanted it to. She'd paddle over by me
every now and then and quietly say, "I really like this one" and then
paddle off.
I spent most of the day struggling to control a flat bottomed
roto-molded kayak and was fairly discouraged thinking I just wasn't
getting it. At the end of the day she asked me to try the Santee. It
took me less than a minute to figure out why she'd been so happy. Even
on my first day out, I was in control of where it was going all the
time even on a windy day on a fairly large lake. I loved it too and I
was quickly thinking, "I'm getting one of these!" This rainy, dreary
kind of day was an awesome experience for both of us. Thanks to
Hurricane Aquasports! We're hooked on kayaking.
Back at Quiet World we asked if there were any for sale, but the stock
they use for classes had already been sold and will be picked up in
September. They did provide everyone with a list of dealers in lower
Michigan, so now we are off on a search for two of our own. We can't
say enough about Bruce as an instructor and the Santee 116 that helped
make learning more like "child's play."
Thanks so much for opening the door to a wonderful new world!

I've had my Hurricane Santee XL for about 8 yrs. and love it! My only complaint is that I don't get to use it enough due to time limitations. The picture shows me and my dog, Roxy (a pug who needs to wear her life jacket), enjoying a trip in Assawoman Bay State Wildlife Area in Deleware. I often recommend your product to anyone looking for a kayak. Thanks for contributing to one of my favorite things to do...
